Hurricane Katrina


Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 hurricane and it formed on August

23, 2005and it disappeared on August 31, 2005. The highest winds of

hurricane Katrina was 175mph. The damages of hurricane Katrina was $75

billion dollars. As a category 1 hurricane Katrina hit South Miami, Florida

on August 25, 2005 it resulted in dozen of deaths in South Miami. The

affected areas from Katrina were the Bahamas, South Florida, Cuba,

Louisiana, New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.

The damages of hurricane Katrina was estimated to be about $75 billion

dollars but other people estimate from $40 to $120 billion dollars of damage.

Hurricane Katrina was the most expensive natural disaster in U.S history.

Hurricane Katrina left 3 million people with out electricity and it took some

weeks for power to be restored. Hurricane Katrina was probably the worst

catastrophe in this country’s history. After the first month after Katrina hit

there where hundreds of thousands of Katrina evacuees living in temporary

shelters and trailer parks set up by FEMA and other relief organization.

Hurricane Katrina also cause tornadoes and there were at least 33 tornadoes

cause by hurricane Katrina around the United States and there were 1

tornado in the Florida Keys, 11 tornadoes in Mississippi, 4 tornadoes in

Alabama, and 17 tornadoes in Georgia.
